Privacy Policy

Effective July 6, 2026 · Land Dept., New York

Land Dept. is a newsletter. The only thing we need from you to run it is an email address, and the short version of this policy is: we use it to send you the newsletter, we don't sell it, and you can leave any time.

Land Dept. ("we," "us") publishes an email newsletter from New York. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who helps us run the service. Questions? Write to [email protected].

01 What we collect

We collect only what the newsletter needs to function:

  • Your email address, when you subscribe.
  • Optional details you volunteer — such as a first name or region — if we ever ask for them in a form or you include them when you reply to an issue.
  • Engagement data generated automatically by our email provider: whether an issue was delivered, opened, or clicked. We use this to understand what's useful and to keep our list clean.

We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive personal information. Please don't send it to us.

02 How we use it

  • To send you the newsletter and any subscriber communications you signed up for.
  • To operate and improve the publication — for example, seeing which issues resonate.
  • To process and service a paid subscription, if and when you start one.
  • To respond when you write to us.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not sell, rent, or trade it.

03 Who helps us run it

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, under their own privacy and security terms:

  • Kit (kit.com, formerly ConvertKit) — our email service provider. It stores your email address and engagement data and delivers each issue.
  • Stripe — our payment processor for paid subscriptions, if you start one. We never see or store your full card details; Stripe handles them directly.
  • Our website host, which serves this page and may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.

We share your information with these providers only to the extent needed to run the service.

04 Cookies and analytics

This site is intentionally lightweight. It does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand traffic, we will update this policy and keep it to aggregate, non-identifying measurement.

05 How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a minimal record as needed to honor your choice and meet legal obligations, and otherwise remove your data on request.

06 Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe any time using the link at the bottom of every issue. It takes effect immediately.
  • Access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you — just email us.
  • Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights over your personal data. We honor those requests; contact us to exercise them.

07 Children

Land Dept. is meant for adults evaluating land and building projects. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

08 Changes

We may update this policy as the publication grows. When we do, we'll revise the effective date above, and we'll flag material changes in the newsletter.
